Our group will provide the expertise, state-of-the-art resources, and the training necessary to promote cutting edge skeletal and enzyme mechanistic study research<\/p><p>Understanding skeleton and cellular mechanisms underlying related disease is of the utmost importance for diagnosis and therapeutic intervention. Our group is particularly interested in developing a strong skeletal disease and enzyme reaction mechanism program to complement existing expertise at the Faculty of Dentistry. We aim to establish an excellent Center of Excellence and bring together expertise from immunologist, biochemists and physiologist to further develop our research in the future. The immunological aspects of musculoskeletal diseases eg. osteoarthritis, will be explored. Understanding the immune-mediated mechanisms, inflammation and how the immune system plays a role in the pathogenesis of osteoarthritis may lead to applications in (immuno)therapy for this disease. These studies are based on human models through collaboration with clinicians in the orthopedics field. Our work also expands to using biologics in treating osteoarthritis patients and understanding the biochemistry behind The inflammation process in response of microbes leads to alveolar bone loss. The disease is a major problem in oral health including systemic disorder. Inhibition of inflammatory response prevents bone loss. THCA cannabinoid compound is potentially inhibitor of inflammatory process. However, to obtain high yield of THCA, the recombinant enzyme THCA synthase for biosynthesis of THCA from lower cost starting compound of cannabigerlolic acid using yeast expression system will be developed. This compound will be applied for the drug for therapeutic use in periodontal disease or use for oral rehabilitation to preserve bone after resolution of Our group will provide the expertise, state-of-the-art resources, and the training necessary to promote cutting edge skeletal and enzyme mechanistic study research Understanding skeleton and cellular mechanisms underlying related disease is of the utmost importance for diagnosis and therapeutic intervention. Our group is particularly interested in developing a strong skeletal disease and enzyme reaction mechanism program to complement existing expertise at the Faculty of Dentistry. We aim to establish an excellent Center of Excellence and bring together expertise from immunologist, biochemists and physiologist to further develop our research in the future. The immunological aspects of musculoskeletal diseases eg. osteoarthritis, will be explored. Understanding the immune-mediated mechanisms, inflammation and how the immune system plays a role in the pathogenesis of osteoarthritis may lead to applications in (immuno)therapy for this disease. These studies are based on human models through collaboration with clinicians in the orthopedics field. Our work also expands to using biologics in treating osteoarthritis patients and understanding the biochemistry behind it. The inflammation process in response of microbes leads to alveolar bone loss. The disease is a major problem in oral health including systemic disorder. Inhibition of inflammatory response prevents bone loss. THCA cannabinoid compound is potentially inhibitor of inflammatory process. However, to obtain high yield of THCA, the recombinant enzyme THCA synthase for biosynthesis of THCA from lower cost starting compound of cannabigerlolic acid using yeast expression system will be developed. This compound will be applied for the drug for therapeutic use in periodontal disease or use for oral rehabilitation to preserve bone after resolution of microbes.
