Waste Utilization and Ecological Risk Assessment Research Unit

Waste Utilization and Ecological Risk Assessment Research Unit

A research unit that integrates in-depth research on waste utilization to reduce ecological risks, value the waste and achieve carbon neutrality towards a sustainable environment. We focus on producing comprehensive studies on the utilization of waste from the municipal and industrial sectors and also create a network of governmental agencies, academic institutions and commercial enterprises to facilitate cooperation in sustainable environmental management.

Research & Innovation Focus

Sustainable Society + BCG
NetZero + BCG
Sustainable Society + Disaster & Environment

Strategic Objectives

  • To utilize waste as valorization, reduce ecological risks, including greenhouse gas reduction and sequestration
  • To develop an integrated waste management system
  • To establish cooperative environmental participation

Target in 3 Years

  • To produce in-depth research on the utilization of industrial and municipal waste for energy production, soil fertilization, wastewater treatment technology, greenhouse gas reduction, waste valorization in the circular economy, and ecosystem monitoring and risk assessment.
  • To create a model for a sustainable society that addresses waste management in cities and on islands from the point of origin to the point of destination.
  • To create a collaborative network of researchers from both public and private organizations to integrate environmental management towards a low-carbon and ecologically friendly society, including sourcing external funding to expand the scope of work of the unit to CE

Research Highlights

  • Converting carbon dioxide into mineral rocks to increase the strength of artificial reefs and paving bricks made from industrial waste.
  • Nakhonnont model for sustainable food waste management
  • Distribution and risk assessment of marine microplastic pollution.
