The Social Innovation Hub (SiHub) at Chulalongkorn University serves as a platform for driving social innovation projects that address complex societal challenges while aligning with the university’s vision of becoming a Global University. It leverages Chulalongkorn University's strengths as a Comprehensive University, excelling in science, social sciences, humanities, and fine arts. This multidisciplinary foundation enables the university to engage in internationally recognized research and foster integrated collaborations to tackle global challenges.
Key focus areas include:
- Aging Society Innovation – addressing issues related to aging populations,
- Sustainable Community and Creative Tourism – promoting sustainable community development through innovative tourism,
- Design for Society – advancing social architecture and design solutions, and
- Art and Humanities for Inspiration – using arts and humanities to inspire and drive societal change.
Through policy innovation and practical social solutions, CU SiHub aims to create tangible benefits for communities and gain recognition in the global academic community, contributing to sustainable global development.
Currently, Chulalongkorn University has invested in the development of integrated research collaborations to address complex global challenges across various domains. These efforts have yielded tangible impacts, including national policy contributions, localized transformations, and sustained practical implementations. The university has established extensive networks spanning the public sector, private sector, civil society, academia, and community-based initiatives. Through research and practical applications, these collaborations have strengthened academic advancements and led to globally relevant policy recommendations in the field of social innovation.

The objective of the social innovation initiative is to serve as a platform for enhancing and expanding academic research to social innovation. This initiative aims to tackle complex societal challenges and improve the quality of society and the environment—both in Thailand and globally.
By supporting research activities, education, and experiential learning, the initiative fosters change through global citizenship. It strengthens individual leaders, dedicated groups, and high-potential networks to drive meaningful transformation. This is achieved through active learning and hands-on engagement, enabling participants to extract insights and apply them to complex social and environmental challenges while developing innovative policy solutions.
The initiative operates in collaboration with Outstanding Partnerships, bringing together world-class institutions committed to cultivating leaders for social and environmental change at regional and global levels. The goal is to enhance and build upon Chulalongkorn University’s ongoing social innovation research, ensuring impactful and sustainable social and environmental transformation within the global community.
Objectives
- To promote awareness among faculty, researchers, and university staff regarding the significance and utilization of intellectual property, while fostering the development of social innovation.
- To motivate faculty, researchers, and university staff to create innovations with both commercial and social impact potential.
- To establish a management system for technology transfer and the commercialization of intellectual property and social innovations, ensuring tangible societal benefits.
- To build collaborative networks between the public and private sectors, both domestically and internationally, to advance knowledge and research for high-impact applications.
- To increase the proportion of research outputs that receive patents, petty patents, trademarks, and are effectively utilized for societal benefit.
