Strategic Objectives

  • Conducting Interdisciplinary Research for Sustainable Railway ARIISE is committed to undertake comprehensive, interdisciplinary research to develop innovative, sustainable railway infrastructure solutions. This includes exploring new materials, design methodologies, and construction technologies that are environmentally friendly and resource-efficient. By focusing on circular economy principles, the unit's research endeavors to create railway systems that are not only efficient and safe but also environmentally sustainable and economically beneficial, contributing to a more sustainable and self-sufficient economy. ARIISE directly supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 9, 11, and 13, aiming to innovate in infrastructure while considering the broader implications of climate change and energy use.

  • Enhance Railway Safety and Operational Efficiency ARIISE is at the forefront of integrating advanced digital technologies into railway infrastructure and operations by embracing Industry 4.0 and performing cutting-edge research in systems engineering to enhance the safety, reliability, and efficiency of railway operations. This involves developing sophisticated diagnostic, monitoring, and control systems that can preemptively identify, address potential issues and enable predictive maintenance. ARIISE Contributes to SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) by aiming to reduce accidents and fatalities and supports SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) through the development of reliable and resilient infrastructure.

  • Promoting Knowledge Exchange and Capacity Building in Railway Engineering ARIISE strives to foster collaborative research and knowledge dissemination as a hub for knowledge exchange in railway engineering, disseminating findings to the broader community, including industry stakeholders, policymakers, and academic peers. We will quarterly organize conferences, workshops, and seminars that not only disseminate research findings but also gather input from various stakeholders to guide future research directions. ARIISE also supports SDG 4 (Quality Education) by fostering an informed community of practice in railway engineering and aligns with SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through collaborative research initiatives.

Research Highlights

  • Circular economy and sustainability for decarbonised railway systems
  • Resilience of railway systems in extreme climate conditions
  • Railway Operation Management
